The Selection by Christine Castle & Jayne Faith
(Sapient Salvation Series, #1)
Publication date: October 2015
Genres: New Adult, Paranormal Romance

Twice a year, the alien Lord Toric demands a selection of human women between the ages of 18 and 20 to compete in the Tournament of the Offered for a place in his harem. Maya must get through just one more selection and then she can marry the man of her dreams. She should have been safe, but when a young woman who was supposed to compete dies the day of the selection, Maya is forced into the Tournament.
Now she must compete against women who have been training for the Tournament for years to hone their skills of poise, charm, cunning, and seduction. And there is only one winner in the Tournament. The losers will be sacrificed.
Thrown into the fight of her life with no preparation, Maya must shed her innocence and win Lord Toric’s favor. Will she survive the first round, or will she pay the ultimate price for her inexperience?

To me this read was a mash up of hunger games because of the tournament aspect to it. Kind of the bachelor feel to it because they have to please Lord topic to become part of his harem. Maya is a twin who works twice as hard to make up for her sister Lana. the obligated that was chosen has suddenly died. So, for the women between 18-20 were up for the lottery to take her place. Unfortunately Maya's name drawn. Just when she finds a guy worth her time she wouldn't get the chance to explore with Rand. Lord topic has had a bad childhood, you see he was abducted at a young age and toured for years. Now that he has taken his father's place his memories now hunt him. He watches the offered come out of the portal. His eyes a long black hair he keeps his eyes trained on her. He needs to know her, know about her. Once he knows about Maya he has to be cautious about disinterest in her. He is informed that she is in danger. If she wins the tournament she will be the salvation. So, who could be out for Maya? Jealous women? Or Jeric? Maybe even Anika? Warning it ends into a cliffhanger. The sequel, Sapient Salvation Book 2: The Awakening. will continue Maya's story. In the beginning it was kind of boring. After a couple chapters it picked up quite a bit. It was okay just wanted something more. The back story did develop like I thought it would be. Nonetheless I liked it and will be picking up the next book to see how Maya's journey turns out to be.
